swim with seals at Lundy Island
Swimming with seals at Lundy Island can be a unique and exhilarating experience for several reasons.
Firstly, Lundy Island is home to a large population of Atlantic grey seals, making it an ideal location to observe and interact with these fascinating marine creatures. The seals on Lundy Island are known for their inquisitive and playful nature, and swimming with them allows you to witness their graceful movements and observe their natural behaviour in their own environment.
Furthermore, Lundy Island's seal population is protected under the Conservation of Seals Act 1970, which has allowed their numbers to grow significantly. This protection ensures the preservation of the seal colony and contributes to the long-term sustainability of the species.
Swimming with seals at Lundy Island can therefore offer a thrilling and educational experience as you connect with these incredible marine animals in their natural habitat.

Time to get comfy! We will head out of the harbour and travel west towards Lundy Island. Journey time is dependent on local conditions but normally equates to around 1.5hrs. En-route we will watch out for any marine life, as well as sea pollution we can collect.
On arrival, your skipper will select the most appropriate options taking into consideration the tides and weather conditions, allowing you to get the best experience from your trip.
You will have the opportunity of spending a couple hours on Lundy Island with access on and off the boat via a ladder. Once you disembark, you can walk around and explore all the fantastic wildlife Lundy has to offer! Furthermore, there is a village shop and pub. If you wish to enjoy the incredible views, we suggest you head up to the lighthouse where you can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the island. Alternatively, you may wish to relax on the picturesque beaches by the Jetty.
The trip also includes 2 hours swimming with seals! We will head to the bays where large grey seal colonies live. On booking, you’ll receive our Seal Code of Conduct which we kindly ask you to read in your own time; key points will be reiterated before entering the water. Please Note: We do not tolerate any unacceptable behaviour with the seals; this is their home, and we are visitors. Swimming and watching seals glide seamlessly through the water in their natural environment, is one of the most incredible experiences! Sometimes they choose to be extremely curious of humans and come in for a closer look; If you have an underwater camera, we highly suggest you bring it!
Each boat is equipped with a dive lift. This is lowered in and out of the water allowing effortless access to the boat’s deck, where you can get dried off and enjoy a hot drink.
The Journey back to Ilfracombe is once again approximately 1.5hrs, where you can sit back, relax and reflect on the day.
